Twenty one sets
I wanted my laptop keyboard to sound like a good mechanical one. tactile lives in the menu bar and plays a recorded switch on every press and release. I only shipped sounds with a licence that allowed it, which left twenty one sets, from Cherry MX Blue to a Smith-Corona typewriter.
Keys that sound like themselves
Space, enter, backspace and the modifiers have their own recordings. Escape, the arrows and the function row play the set's strike 7.5 percent faster, because a small key rings higher and dies sooner. Stereo placement puts each key where it sits, so the left of the keyboard plays from the left speaker.
The tone pad
The pad turns the sets into a space instead of a list. Two axes move any switch between a deep thock and a sharp clack while you type. You can also record thirty seconds of your own keyboard and turn it into a set. It is signed, notarized and free at tactilekeys.netlify.app.
